HOW IT WORKS AND HOW TO CONNECT A DIMMER
Have you
ever heard of dimmers or various lights? Let's find out what it is, what it is
for and how to install it in a few simple steps.
1. What is a dimmer?
2. What is its function?
3. Guide to installing a dimmer
What is a dimmer?
To explain, we could give it a definition rich in technical terms and complicated to
understand. First, however, let's start with a simpler definition, saying that
a dimmer is a device thanks to which it is possible to manage the light the intensity of a lighting product (light bulbs, LED strips, panels).
Instead, if
we want to talk in more technical terms, a dimmer is a device able to control
and regulate the power flow absorbed by a load from an electronic point of
view.
What is its function?
Now that we
have explained what a dimmer is, we can ask ourselves: “What is it for? ".
Its main function can be inferred from the English verb "to dim",
which means to obscure.
It happens
very often, to be in a period of the day in which a softer and weaker light is needed,
in the same way that, at other times, a more intense light is needed. This is
the reason why the dimmer, which is the common language is called variance,
turns out to be an instrument, to say the least fundamental to regulate the intensity of light, but also to obtain a considerable saving in terms of
energy.
But how do
you install a dimmer? Let's find out!
Guide to installing a dimmer
Before
explaining the steps to install a dimmer, we must point out that these devices
are not compatible with all the lamps, and therefore it is good to check their
compatibility with their own, before proceeding with the eventual purchase and
installation.
The
installation of a dimmer is a very simple process to perform, which requires
only a minimum of practice with cables and electrical outlets, as well as good
dexterity.
Here's what
you need to do to install a dimmer correctly and totally safely:
·
Disconnect
the current through the main switch;
·
Remove
the switch plate in which the dimmer will be inserted and also remove the fruit
holder;
·
Extract
the fruit and replace it with the dimmer (also called light-change);
·
Disconnect
the electrical wires from the fruit, connecting them to the dimmer;
·
Place
the dimmer in the previously extracted fruit holder;
·
Finally,
reposition the previously dismantled plate and reattach the current to power
the electrical system.
Once these
steps have been completed, you can finally make a test to see if everything has
gone the right way. Before replacing the power supply, however, it is
absolutely necessary to check that all the wires are connected perfectly and to
check that you have put the dimmer in the right place, so as not to trigger the
life-saver.
